Shiongo Foundation
Welcome to Shiongo Foundation, where our roots run deep in the community and our vision grows toward a sustainable future. We are a grassroots movement dedicated to transforming our landscape and empowering our people through the timeless practices of agro-forestry and fruit tree farming.
Our Mission
We believe in tangible change. Our work is built on four core pillars:
Introduce Fruit tree farming and Agro- Forestry practices in the community.
Empower the Community (Formation of Young Farmers Clubs, Local Farmers Co-operative).
Teach and train farmers on Climate resilient and economically viable ventures.
Support local schools in starting and maintaining green vegetable patches & introducing a tree farming culture to the community through school programs.

Our Problem Points
Use of firewood / fuel wood energy
95% of the community in the region rely on firewood as their primary source of cooking energy.
Old farming practices
The farmers practice subsistence farming., hence culture of from "FARM to STOMACH"" and no savings nor surplus produce year in year out.
Poverty
Due to lack of innovative ways of farming or other means of trade poverty levels are very high
Poor Health
Due to poverty levels the girls sanitary pads needs are compromised leading to girls high absentism and lots of unhygienic sanitary practices

Our Projects
Empowering communities through sustainable initiatives and educational support.
Tree Planting
Due to poverty levels the girls sanitary pads needs are compromised leading to girls high absentism and lots of unhygienic sanitary practices

Youth Football Tournaments
We support local talent by hosting under 17 football tournaments for girls & boys. We provide playing kits, sanitary pads and reward winners with cash , certificates and medals. Our last tournament had 4 girls and 4 boys team at the finals.

School Vegetable Patches
We have set up green vegetable patches in schools this aids in school feeding programs. currently 1,300 students benefit from this. We also plant indegenious & fruit trees with the children supporting the young farmers club earn some revenue.

Farmer Training Sessions
Following the formation of "Shiongo Farmers Co-Operative” we call in experts in various fields to train & empower farmers on sustainable and profitable ventures that can economically empower them. So far we have had Agronomists, Co-operative registration staff and Avocado experts.

Sanitary Pads Distribution
Girls in the village receive pads from us periodically. They also receive hygiene talks which has soo far reduced the number of absent girls from schools by a whopping 90% from 2015 when we started this program. Every year we have contributed pads to more than 2000 girls in the area.
Current Foundation Projections
Our Proposition
Green Energy Cooking Solution
We can not be pushing for Climate resilience action while 100% of the local schools are on Firewood; we want to transition to biofuel kitchens.
Farmer Empowerment
As we continue educating and training farmers to practice agro forestry and push for more farmers to embrace fruit tree farming we want to have a savings and loaning platform that farmers can be part of and in turn alway have some economical muscle
